The Right Way to Get Rid of Pesky Blemishes

Ok, so I know those extraction videos are all the rage right now, but don't worry guys I won't expose you to any videos or photo demonstrations. I read this post on Byrdie the other night which inspired me to write a bit on this matter.

Although the needle method is sterile and probably works great it's not my cup of tea. I don't really want to poke needles into my skin unless it's for a vaccine.

About a month ago I purchased an extraction tool with one of my online orders. This has honestly changed the game for me. We all know that picking at our skin is awful, it can lead to scarring, infection, and even make your spot last longer. However, this tool is gentle and doesn't squeeze your skin the same way you would with your fingers, therefore it does not push bacteria or dirt deeper into your skin.

The package says you can gently "roll away" blackheads or whiteheads. There are two ends to the tool, the flat side is for whiteheads and the side that is bent is for blackheads. I can honestly say that since I started using this tool my blemishes have cleared up much faster.

Here's how I do it;

**I recommend doing your extractions at night since your skin has time to repair overnight and may look a bit irritated.
  1. Using warm water wash your face with your favorite cleanser and washcloth. The warm water will help open your pores making the extractions even easier.
  2. Use the correct side of the extraction tool (depending on your blemish) and gently remove the contents.
  3. Clean off the tool with a cotton round doused in rubbing alcohol.
  4. I like to wash my face a second time, after using the extraction tool.
  5. I follow up with a toner or astringent to help dry up the spot and soothe it.
  6. At this point, I usually use Lush's Full of Grace Serum which I feel helps to tighten my pores.
  7. Always follow your toner with moisturizer, this will help your skin soak in the moisture you may have stripped away with the toner and help prevent your skin from over producing oil.
**for extra pore tightening between steps 3 and 4 try Aztec Secret face mask. :)
