City Girl Skincare Series| 2 | DIY Mask Recipe for Congested Pores

My skin has been absolutely thriving on The Better Skin Co. products that I featured in my last post, my skin is smooth and deep breakouts seem to clear up quicker than ever.

I asked on my Instagram story if you would like to see more of the 'City Girl Skincare' posts and I decided to make a series of it! These posts will be focused on how I combat environmental stressors/pollution as well as congestion.

It's been a hot minute since I used my holy grail face mask. I have definitely posted about this before but I love using Aztec Secret Indian healing clay, along with ACV to clear my pores and 'reset' my skin. I used to do this weekly, but that tradition fell by the wayside these past few months.

My boyfriend and I bought a bag of activated charcoal powder a few weeks ago after we bought a premade apple cider vinegar and charcoal cleanse from our local grocery store. When we discovered that we liked the cleanse we decided to try to make the concoction ourselves. We only need a very small scoop of charcoal in our cleanse, and since it comes in such a large bag I have been experimenting with other ways to use it.

Yesterday I mixed charcoal, ACV, and Aztec Secret into a paste and applied my mask as usual. Even with the tiniest drop of charcoal powder the mask was a deep shade of black. I relaxed with the mask on my face for about 15-20 minutes, until it had hardened and then used a wet washcloth to remove it.

This mask is my holy grail for a reason and I honestly did not think it could get any better, but boy was I wrong! Mixing in the charcoal helped clear every bit of congestion from my face. Although I have very smooth and acne-free skin thanks to my new routine, I have never really found anything that properly kept the pores in my t-zone 100% clear aside from a spa facial.

I never really measure my mask exactly, sometimes I make more to mask with friends, and other times I make less since it's just for me.

This time around I made enough for two people, If you would like to make this mask yourself my rough measurements are below.
  • 1/4 tsp activated charcoal
  • 1 1/2 tbsp of aztec secret
  • Add ACV gradually until a paste is formed
