5 Years Later- About Me

It dawned on me this morning that I've had this blog for five whole years and so much in my life and the way I produce content has changed. I wanted to take a few minutes to write up an 'About Me' of sorts and reintroduce myself. I'm not much of a numbers person, oddly, when it comes to my blog, but I know there are some new readers that I would like to say hello to! And if you've been here with me for all five years, thank you!
My name is Patti, I started my blog back in 2015. I majored in Professional Communications, and was assigned a persuasive speech on the topic of my choosing in my public speaking course sophomore year. We were tasked with finding a topic we were passionate about and convince our classmates to take action or at least agree with our argument. Having worked at Lush Cosmetics that semester I chose animal testing, and compiled a presentation all about lab conditions, alternatives to animal testing and why it's no longer scientifically necessary, and easy product swaps you can make at home to 'cast your vote'. I'm a huge believer that as a consumer you are essentially voting when choosing which products to buy for your household. By choosing to purchase cruelty-free products you are supporting a business with the same ethical standards as you, and in turn send a message to corporations that chose to test on animals that you will not support them, financially or otherwise.

Shortly after giving that presentation I felt inspired to make the same changes in my life. My classmates had mentioned that they didn't realize how many products were tested on animals, and that they were going to start researching and reading labels more frequently when shopping. A Cruelty-Free Me began that same semester, and I began writing posts on the swaps I was making in my own life.

My education influenced me in other ways and during my junior and senior years of college I began producing content on my YouTube channel. I posted makeup tutorials, and vlogs. Looking back I sometimes giggle at my intros and awkwardness, but loved every second of my content production courses and I'm glad that my minor in New Media pushed me outside of my comfort zone.

I even wrote my final Professional Communications thesis on the importance of authenticity in the influencer space, as that was something that had plagued my mind senior year... and still does to an extent.

Now it's 2020 and my blog seems to have a bit of every topic. I've been through a few seasons in my life and focused on fitness, wellness, and other lifestyle topics in addition to posting about my cruelty-free favorites.

Since graduating I moved in with my boyfriend (fiancĂ© as of last month), and began my career working in advertising. A lot has changed over the years but I've seen myself really grow through 'A Cruelty Free Me', and don’t have any intention of stopping in the near future. While the long-form content has been dwindling, I've been focusing my efforts here and on instagram these last few months.

I would love to hear from readers, both new and old. If you're reading this drop a 'hi" or introduce yourself in the comments below! I would love to hear your thoughts on the blog and what content you're looking forward to in the future.
